Life is less about the challenges we face, rather how we respond to them

Although the past year is evidence that that life is full of uncertainties, I spent most of my weekend working on my goals and plans for the coming year.  Every year, I create what I call my “wish list”, a business plan, and I update my goal board.  I also take time to reflect not only on the prior year, but also on the experiences and people that have shaped me into who I am.  What continued to come up for me were thoughts of my mom.

Last year for Christmas I decided to share with my grown grandchildren some of my favorite recipes and some old keepsakes written by my most amazing mother – in her own handwriting.    If still living, she would have been 102 last week.  As I began to reminisce about the fun times she and I had in the kitchen, I also thought about a not so happy time.  While still in the hospital after a triple by-pass surgery she suffered a near fatal stroke.  She had just gone on Medicare a few years earlier.  My dad was not yet on (Medicare), and I was a green little 29-year-old.  Neither of us had a clue about how to navigate the world of Medicare.  It was a difficult time……but a time that would eventually draw me to my interest in health and influence how I do business now.   Every time I’m able to help someone with a Medicare plan or even a problem with a bill…. I consider it as an opportunity to provide the type of help to others that I wished we would have had back then.  I believe that life is less about the challenges we face, rather how we respond to them.

In fact, starting January 25th and every other Monday thereafter (Medicare Monday’s) I am designating between 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.  to answer questions and help with problems for people on Medicare or loved ones who are.
